abc Absolute Pressure Transducer

A transducer which measures pressure in relation to a total vacuum.

abc Best Fit Straight Line

A straight line drawn near by all points of the output curve such that the maximum deviation is minimized at all points along the curve.

Bridge Impedance

The bridge impedance of a non-amplified strain gage transducer is measured across the input terminals and the output terminals. The input and output impedance may be held to the same value or have different accuracy requirements.

abc Excitation

The electrical voltage applied to the transducer input terminals.

abc F.S.O.

Full scale output. Same as rated output.

abc Gage Pressure Transducer

A transducer which measures pressure in relation to atmospheric pressure.

abc Hysteresis

The algebraic difference between readings taken at the same loading or pressure points, one ascending and the other descending.

abc Insulation Resistance

The electrical leakage from any bridge lead to the transducer case.

abc Linearity

The maximum deviation of the calibration curve from a straight line drawn between the zero pressure/load and rated pressure/load outputs, expressed as a percent of rated output and measured on increasing pressure/load only.

abc Rated Capacity

The maximum load or pressure to which the device is designed to measure within designated specifications.

Rated Output

The algebraic difference between the output signal at zero applied load or pressure and at rated capacity.

Repeatability

The maximum difference between transducer output reading for repeated loadings under identical loading and environmental conditions.

abc Safe Overrating

The maximum applied overload or overpressure which may be applied without producing a permanent shift in performance characteristics.

Sealed Pressure Transducer

A pressure transducer with the reference port sealed at ambient barometric pressure.

Shunt Calibration

Electrical simulation of impressed load or pressure by applying a resistance across a portion of the measuring bridge circuit resulting in a known output.

Span

Same as rated output.

abc Temperature Effect on Span

The change in span due to a change in ambient temperature expressed as the percentage of change in reading per degree F change in temperature.

Temperature Effect on Zero Balance

The change in zero balance due to a change in the ambient temperature expressed as a percentage of rated output per degree F change in temperature.

TemperatureRange, Compensated

The range of temperature over which the transducer is compensated to maintain rated output and zero balance within specific limits.

Temperature Range, Safe

The extremes of temperature within which the transducer will operate without permanent adverse change to any of its performance characteristics.

Transmitter

A transducer with an amplifier. Typically specified as 4-20 milliamperes output.

abc Ultimate Overrating

The maximum overload or overpressure which may be applied and not cause structural failure of the sensor. This value is expressed in percent of the rated capacity.

abc Wetted Parts

Parts which are exposed to the medium being measured.

abc Zero Balance

The output signal of a transducer with no load or pressure applied, expressed as a percentage of rated output.
